Well, I just looked out of the window a moment ago and saw that the universe was still there. Harold Camping, the doddering old batshit Christian broadcaster with a potential AM radio audience of millions has failed for the third time to predict the apocalypse.

I’m not really sure what I can write about this man that I haven’t already. After all, we starting talking about this lunatic approximately ten months ago. There are only so many synonyms for “lunatic”  that you can trot out.

Back when he publicly face-planted after a multimillion dollar international billboard campaign that announced the Rapture on May 21st, 2011, we rightly predicted that he would rationalize his failure into a vague, insubstantial success and kick the ball down the field. He did. We called him out on the lives that he was destroying, convincing people to spend their life savings in the cause of his Iron Age fairy tales. We also pointed out how the only real difference between Camping’s credulous mob and the majority of American Christians is that Camping put a specific date on Jesus’ return. Hell, we actually garnered a fair deal of press with the party we threw to celebrate his utter failure to predict the death of everyone.

Is there anything new to say about this hateful, delusional, palsied, chicken-necked monster?

Is anyone truly surprised that he’s shoveling down a third helping of failure today?

I have to say the answer to both questions is “no.”

So, tomorrow night, the Ask an Atheist crew will be joining our friends at Seattle Atheists to celebrate the death of this meme, and the continued existence of the planet Earth.

Seattle Atheists has secured the rights to the blockbuster direct-to-video Kirk Cameron epic, “Left Behind” and we’ll be watching and supplying both laughter and running commentary. Popcorn and soda will be on hand, but bring your sense of humor!

What better way to celebrate the fact that the world just keeps stubbornly spinning than by laughing at what 41% of our fellow Americans think is a documentary.

WHERE:  2100 24th Ave. S., Seattle, WA

WHEN: Saturday, October 22nd at 6:30 pm.

Space is limited and a $5 donation at the door is appreciated. All money raised will benefit Camp Quest Northwest. If you can’t make it, please consider making a direct donation to them. They’re awesome — and one of our advertisers!

Can’t make the show? Join us after the movie at 8:30 pm for some Extreme Bowling!

Harold Camping is just lazy. He needs to stop predicting the end of the world & do something to make it happen. Or at least the end of him on this world.

Greg

“multimillion dollar international billboard campaign that announced the Rapture on May 21st, 2001”

Could have sworn that the prediction was made for 2011.

Fabricio

“Poor” old Harold. In the old times, he could announce the end of the world in some crappy book and nobody would really care. He would fool his herd and all would be fine.

But now, everybody can know his stupid predictions, and they will be immortalized on the internet (Google brings his exact quotation as the first result when you search for his name). Worst of all, he made himself a fool internationally. The whole world knows he is an idiot!

Eddie

I am kind of glad that, in regard of the stroke he had after the May 21 fiasco, he has lived long enough to here the latest round of derisive laughter.

I’m all set for the trumpetted unveiling of “Plan D”. Can’t wait.

Jeff

The website at WeCanKnow doesn’t have the banner announcing the end-of-the-world date anymore, but it still continues to claim the end is near. These people suck.
