Evolving Religion in the Military

Sam and Becky delve into the history and experiences of atheists in the military, exploring topics from religious preference codes to protestant evangelism to Humanist chaplains. Special guests include Veteran and Humanist Celebrant Jason Torpy of the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers, and Ask An Atheist friend Paul Mopps.

Guest Bios:

Jason Torpy serves as the President of the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers, a national non-profit building community for atheists and humanists in the military. He also sits on the boards of the Secular Coalition for America Educational Fund, and the American Humanist Association. He is a Humanist Celebrant and a 10-year veteran.

Paul Mopps is an atheist Vietnam Veteran living in Washington State who spent 20 years in the US Army. Now retired, he is stays involved with local humanist communities and volunteers with Camp Quest and Ask An Atheist.

Here are the notes I took after listening to this episode (mind you I was kind of pissed off at the time and had to chill the hell out because these are my friends): 20 year Vietnam vet interviewed, wow…. so what about modern times… now? That was then and you are attacking religiosity in the military today it seems. The points are pointed with now real evidence or substance other than opinion.
