And In This Corner… 9/11 Revisited

Hello, everyone!

This week, we’re doing something very different on Ask an Atheist. As we’ve talked about the conspiracy theories that have popped up regarding the September 11th, 2001 attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania more than once, and that this Sunday’s show will happen on the tenth anniversary of those attacks, we’ll be taking a one-week break from our usual show format and will be hosting a debate on the following question:

“Is there compelling evidence to doubt the official narrative of the 9/11 attacks?”

Debating the question will be:

Case, president of Seattle Skeptics and frequent contributor to the show

and Susan, a member of the local atheist community.

We’re attaching a poll to this post and will include one on a post that will appear at the debate’s conclusion to get your thoughts. What do you think?

We’ll be taking your live calls during the debate and will give you an opportunity to toss in your two cents. Let us know what you think and join the discussion!

Being skeptical of the government’s report is not the same as believing in a conspiracy theory. There is adequate reason to question the rushed whitewash that was given the public on this issue, without knowing the answers and therefore having a ‘theory’ about what actually happened. I, for one, question what we’ve been told about each of the planes and each of the buildings’ coming down.

I used to question it, but then I looked into it and I didn’t find any information that supports the idea that the public was purposefully misdirected or misinformed. Can you provide some of your sources that make you question the validity of the information that’s been released Gene? I would love to read what you’ve found so compelling.

pinko, I’m incredulous concerning your position. What did you find when you “looked into it”? When real information and facts are missing or suppressed, conspiracy theories have fertile ground to sprout and grow. But rather than help define a reasonable approach to bring Americans into alignment with a plausible explanation, the atheist community constantly sides with skeptics that seem to go out their way to deride and dismiss honest skepticism concerning the “official narrative” I personally don’t align myself with any theory that purports to assign motive and define participants but I can’t get beyond how much wasn’t done to… Read more »
